8:10

There was a moment
this morning-
before the weight of the day
had fully descended, settling
snug and warm around my shoulders-
there was a moment when I thought
I’d lost you.
Not in the mortal sense, or
in the way I lose my keys when I am
rushing
to catch the 8:10 train, but more like
when I lose my train
of thought; I thought you’d been
derailed, diverted, directed towards
a different destination, one that would leave me
waiting
at this station
by the ugly statue, my arms
crossed against the cold, still
wondering.

  1. I really liked this piece, i keep re-reading it and just like it more. I love how you used the idea of not finding someone inside your mind anymore and the train. I don’t know it that is what you meant, but that is how i read it, cheers!

    • Thanks, I’m glad you liked it! Yep, that was an intentional parallel between the train of thought and the train station. 🙂
